Post

The Sierra County Probation Department recently visited a local high school during Back to School Month. Deputy Probation Officers Sofia Gonzalez and Scott Quade of Sierra County Probation visited the Loyalton High School Grizzley Night to promote their upcoming TECHWISE SAFETY FAMILY NIGHT on Thursday, October 3, 2024.

TECHWISE is a collaboration of a local nonprofit, The High Sierra Family Resource Center, Probation, school district, Health and Human Services, Sierra Nevada Children’s Services, First-5- Sierra Kids, Musica Sierra, and Tahoe Tech that has focused on the social and emotional health impact of social media and handheld tech on our youth and families.

Following several successful kickoff events at the Loyalton Junio/Senior High School, Loyalton Elementary School, and Downieville School, Sierra County Probation will be leading a teen safety presentation along with partners from the California Highway Patrol, Sierra County Sheriff’s Office, county IT Department and county Behavioral Health focusing on the dangers of devices and driving, bullying, shaming, threats, sexting, solicitation and exploitation, pornography, financial scams, and AI algorithms and misinformation along with some preventative measures and resources.
