Professor Jennifer Skeem Announced as a General Session Speaker!
More exciting news for our Supporting Excellence in California Probation: Strategies for Success conference attendees! We’re honored to announce a special general session led by Professor Jennifer L. Skeem, renowned UC Berkeley Professor of Public Policy and Social Welfare.
What is the most appropriate model of supervision to enact change? How do relationships with probation officers and probationers affect the justice system and the overall wellbeing of probationers? Jennifer Skeem is a PhD psychologist who writes and teaches about the intersection between behavioral science and the justice system. Much of her work shows us that the work of probation officers, with the blending of authority and support is the most appropriate model to enact change.
Professor Skeem’s general session will center on her transformative research about the critical role of “firm, fair, and caring relationships” with probation officers that “predict better client outcomes”.
This engaging session will provide practical insights into the “firm but fair” approach that balances authority with empathy, significantly impacting probationers’ outcomes.
Why this session is a must-attend:
- Discover innovative strategies from Prof. Skeem’s extensive research.
- Learn how to enhance probation effectiveness through positive officer-probationer relationships.
- Apply tools like the Dual Role Relationship Inventory (DRI-R) to improve your practice.
