CPOC and CPOC Foundation are thrilled to announce that Dr. Brian Lovins, an expert in the field of criminology and probation, will be delivering one of the general session trainings at our upcoming Supporting Excellence in California Probation: Strategies for Success conference this June!  

Dr. Lovins’ general session will center on the transformative Coaching Model for probation officers and departments. This model advocates for a fundamental shift in organizational culture—towards one that nurtures learning, growth, and empowerment among staff, thereby enhancing the capacity to effect change in those they supervise. By exploring the model of probation officers as coaches, Dr. Lovins will delve into a probation officers’ professional identity that emphasizes the development of human capital and the achievement of life-changing outcomes for individuals on probation.

Dr. Lovins, brings a wealth of experience, including roles at Harris County CSCD and the University of Cincinnati’s Corrections Institute as well as his current leadership roles at Justice System Partners and the American Probation and Parole Association (APPA).  At the conference he will bring his innovative thinking to the California Probation field, and will dive into the Coaching Model during his training session at the conference.
