Position: Research and Evaluation are critical elements necessary to the development and maintenance of offender programs and the cost-effective allocation of scarce resources.

Summary of Issue: CPOC will promoted research and the use of associated resources in the field of corrections with a particular emphasis on probation. We will continue to develop guidelines for research and evaluation of correctional programs that lend themselves to comparative results between correctional agencies, including the development of uniform adult and juvenile offender data bases and commonly accepted correctional terms and definitions. We will review and respond to significant research that may impact the field of corrections and work for the coordination of state and local correctional research efforts.
