Statement from CPOC President Chief Kelly Vernon on the Passage of Proposition 36
Sacramento, California, November 5, 2024 – The Chief Probation Officers of California (CPOC) issued the following statement from their President, Chief Kelly Vernon, regarding the passage of Proposition 36.
“ This is a clear message from California voters that our justice system must be balanced, avoiding extremes on either side of the pendulum. While rehabilitation is essential, so is accountability, and this measure represents a crucial step toward rebalancing the system. Effective implementation will be essential, and we look forward to working with the state and all our partners towards achieving safer communities for all and better outcomes for those within the justice system.”
