MARIN COUNTY, Calif. – April 11, 2025 – Recruitment is open through May 9 for the Marin County Career Explorer Program, a popular vocational internship opportunity for youth ages 15 to 21, funded by the Marin County Probation Department

The Career Explorer Program is an eight-week paid summer internship program that provides valuable work experience to local youth from diverse backgrounds and some who may face barriers to employment or other career development opportunities. The program offers participants the unique chance to work with various County of Marin departments, community agencies, and public education partners. Interns are paid $18.50 per hour for up to 25 hours per week during the program.

The eight-week program is divided into two phases: A two-week orientation period that starts June 16, followed by a six-week placement with a County department lasting from June 30 through August 8.

“The Career Explorer Program is more than just a stepping stone — it’s a lifeline,” said Chief Probation Officer Marlon Washington.

“Watching it grow over the years has been one of my greatest honors. We’re opening doors for young people, regardless of their past or where they come from. Some have walked through the justice system themselves or watched family members do the same. But here, they find hope, purpose, and the power to rewrite their future. This is where growth begins, and where potential is realized.”

The Career Explorer Program not only introduces young people to County government and its commitment to the community, but it also includes a comprehensive soft skills training course and a guest speaker series. The series features County employees, community partners, and business leaders who share inspiring stories to motivate future members of the workforce.

Each year, one Career Explorer Intern is honored with the Dan Daniels Spirit of Service Award, which recognizes a participant who demonstrates exceptional passion and dedication in serving clients, co-workers, and community partners.
