Supervisors Leadership Academy – Sacramento

The Supervisors Leadership Academy (SLA) is designed to prepare first line Probation Department supervisors for their new role as change leaders. Leadership can be defined as a process whereby an individual influences a group of individuals to achieve a common goal. Whether this is your definition or not, being an effective leader is key for any supervisor. This SLA program is designed to take participants to the next level as a leader in their department. Topics that will be covered in week 1 include Real Colors temperament tool, leadership roles, organizational culture, learning organization, Evidence-Based Practices (EBP), Leading and Managing Change, understanding cycle of conflict and workforce diversity. Topics covered in week 2 include workforce diversity, conflict management, performance measures, data-decision making, reward & recognition, and coaching and mentoring.

Domestic Violence Core Training For Probation Officers – Sacramento 2024

Probation Officers who supervise individuals convicted of domestic violence offenses encounter issues that are not common in other types of supervision caseloads. For example, these Probation Officers interact more with victims, work directly with Batterer Intervention Programs, and need to understand the unique dynamics of interpersonal relationship violence. This two-day (16 hour) intensive, highly interactive, victim-centered trauma-informed core training is specifically designed to enhance the knowledge and skills of Probation Officers responsible for the supervision of individuals convicted of domestic violence, dating violence, and stalking. Topics include: understanding victim and offender profiles and behavior; victim-blaming; history of trauma and abuse; power and control issues; legal role and authority of probation; restraining orders; domestic violence courts; supervision techniques, including awareness about LGBTQ issues; risk assessments; investigation issues; the expectations and requirements of Batterer Intervention Programs; evidence-based interventions and fidelity; data collection; and secondary trauma and toxic stress.

Target Audience: This course is designed for Probation Officers responsible for the supervision of individuals convicted of domestic violence, dating violence and stalking court case.

Managers Leadership Academy – Sacramento County 2024

The 80-hour intensive training course is designed to prepare current probation managers for executive positions. The course blends practical skill building, individualized leadership development, and a focus on ethical, data-driven decision-making to cultivate California’s future probation leadership. The course is comprised of two weeks of classroom training, an intersession practicum assignment, self-paced learning modules, peer study groups, and a 360-leadership assessment.

Building Stronger Team Bonds: Relationship-Centered Strategies for Probation Professionals in California – Tulare County 2024
In-Person Training

Research in organizational psychology and workplace culture have identified three primary drivers of workplace success: positive mindset, resilience and social connection. During this session we’ll focus on social connection, in the form of workplace relationships. Social connection and belonging have been identified as critical to both workplace well-being and also the collective success of groups. Effective team-building efforts lead to stronger bonds improving trust, cohesion, fulfillment, communication and results. During this session, attendees will learn how to efficiently build, deepen and then sustain relationships.

Mindful Resilience: Cultivating Self-Care for Probation Officers – Tulare County 2024
In-Person Training

This course will discuss the direct impact on mental wellness when working with clients for the field staff. Engage and allow participants to discover their self-care coping tools and demonstrate practical coping tools including self-care application tools that they can use daily in their work and personal life. Provide self-care take-home packages to use during and after the workshop. The format of the sessions will combine the elements of psychoeducation, interaction, and MBSR activity.

Public Safety Officer’s Procedural Bill of Rights Act (POBR) – Sacramento 2024

This course provides the students with a contextual understanding of the origin of the Act and its statewide purpose. We then proceed through the various facets of the Act, noting where and how it may arise and apply or not apply to hypothetical scenarios. The teaching objective is to have students leave the course understanding this body of law and with confidence in their ability to properly administer it. Review and analysis of the Public Safety Officers’ Procedural Bill of Rights Act (Gov Code sec. 3300-3312), including statutory modifications, court decisions impacting on the statute, and how the Act is to be applied.

Target Audience: This course is available to all probation staff, but the primary focus of instruction is on the correct interpretation and application of the body of law related to supervision and management.
