Informational Workshop: Exploring Programs and Practices that Promote Positive Engagement, Enhance Restorative Justice and Maintain Accountability

Recently the San Luis Obispo County and San Francisco County-Juvenile Probation Departments provided an engaging and informative breakout session at CPOC’s statewide conference in June. CPOC is bringing this session to your office! This informational workshop will explore the two departments’ implementation efforts (San Luis Obispo Probation at year 8 and San Francisco Juvenile Probation at very early implementation) for two distinct programs/practices within their secure juvenile facilities, what it takes to maintain fidelity to each model and/or get started with the programs in order to enhance services, engagement and programming for both the youth being supported and the staff who support them. Join this session to hear about Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS) from San Luis Obispo County’s Probation Department and County Office of Education and about Restoration, Improvement, Success and Elevation (RISE) from San Francisco County Juvenile Probation Department. You’ve heard about what the programs are, now learn how the departments are implementing them.

SPEAKERS:

  • Marguerite Harris, Chief Deputy Probation Officer, San Luis Obispo Probation Department
  • Lindsey Tompkins, Behavior Intervention Services Manager, San Luis Obispo County Office of Education
  • Katy Miller, Chief Probation Officer, San Francisco County Juvenile Probation
  • Shane Thomas, Director of Juvenile Facilities, San Francisco County Juvenile Probation
