This presentation provides a one-day onsite trauma-informed approach to self-care and the professional, specifically the probation officer. The trauma-informed framework, based on the public health model, sets the stage for a safe, effective, and job-related investigation into the professional self at work. In the first half of the presentation, attendees will learn how to understand self-care as a skill developed in early childhood and that can be learned in later life. The second half looks at the workplace and the environment needed for employees to be able to care for their needs at work. A specific review of the literature related to probation officers will highlight the research and best practices.
